Dr Rosalie Boyce was in Warrnambool on Wednesday and voiced her opinion as part of The Standard’s Community Journalism Day.
Now based in Brisbane, the allied health consultant said the breakwater area is a world-class space that should be included in the local bus route system.
“What I’d like to see is the bus that comes down Pertobe Road turn down to the Pavilion, this beautiful area of the foreshore,” she said. “At the moment if you don’t have a car you can’t access it.”
The Public Transport Victoria (PTV) Warrnambool bus route number 5, Lake Pertobe Loop, currently travels from the roundabout at Stanley Street and Pertobe Road and turns east towards South Warrnambool.
Dr Boyce said all members of the public would benefit if the route was extended to include Viaduct Road.
Warrnambool City Council mayor Kylie Gaston said although the decision involved other parties, if residents asked Council to advocate for them they would take it “very seriously”.
Why can't we have that bus do that extra half a kilometre so everyone can enjoy this beautiful space
