Top-order batsman Sam Younghusband dislocated his left shoulder in the Panthers’ fielding warm-up on Saturday.

The former Carlton talent left the Wesley-CBC clash early and underwent scans at the Warrnambool Base Hospital on Saturday afternoon.

The scans revealed a number of hairline fractures in the joint, forcing Younghusband to spend at least six to eight weeks on the sidelines.

He told The Standard he was frustrated with the injury but was planning a long rehabilitation program with a physiotherapist.

“I’ll take it easy, especially with school exams coming up. I think if it was to happen again, I’d impair my studies,” the 18-year-old said.

“I’ll give it as much time as it needs and work really hard on it to get it back into shape.

“I’ve got a referral for a specialist and two weeks after that I’ll see a physio. Until then, I’ve got to wear a sling and do absolutely nothing with it.”

West Warrnambool lost the clash by seven wickets after a 58-run haul from Wesley-CBC’s Ryan McArdle put the game to bed.

Younghusband managed 21 with the bat prior to his injury – the Panthers’ second-highest total of the match behind coach Alastair Templeton’s 57 runs.

“I’ve been waiting for a while to get back in the middle with the bat, and I felt we made some of our key performance indicators pretty early on even though we went down,” he said.

“I was out with a rash shot but it was good to be out there even though I ended up with an injury.”
