The grant has allowed the brigade to install a new 50,000-litre capacity tank to use with the existing 25,000-litre tank and bore.
St Helens Fire Brigade secretary Michael Cain said modifications to the quick-fill pump enabled better water delivery to waiting trucks and that the brigade was grateful for the funding, especially with the approaching fire season.
“With several blue gum plantations in the brigade response area, plus extensive grassland, the need for a reliable and efficient supply of water is paramount to successful fire control of any blazes that may occur,” Mr Cain said.
Mr Cain said as with any operational improvements, the brigade hoped the new water source wasn’t required, but members would be better prepared if the need arose.
