But the Demons were three goals up at quarter-time and were never headed, winning 37-30.
Timboon coach Bethany Errey said although both teams deserved to be in the grand final, she felt the Demons fought hardest on Saturday.
“I think they had control from the beginning today,” she said.
“They didn’t let Collegians come back at them at any stage, they just held their ground and kept fighting.”
Her stand-outs for the game were a trio she praised highly.
“I think Macy Gale was strong in goal shooter,” she said.
“I think Briony Ziegalaar had a good game in wing attack and Lilly Hose through the centre court.”
Winner of best on court, 18 year-old Lilly Hose, said her award would be shared with the group of girls she’d played with for over five years.
“I’ve already declared it a team award,” she said.
“We have a great group of girls and this was the perfect way to end the season.”
This was the Demons’ third premiership in four years.
“I’ve played for Timboon all my life,” Lilly said. “We seem to win every second year.”
