AN EXHIBITION that takes people behind the scenes of the Warrnambool Base Hospital’s emergency department will be unveiled on Friday.
Two years in the making, Topias III will be launched in the former surgical ward from 5pm.
The display is the work of Melbourne artist Georgie Mattingley, who has hand-painted black-and-white photos to explore the “nuts and bolts” of the emergency department.
“I have focused on those mundane tasks, things like cooking, cleaning, sterilising – things that aren’t glamourous but that make a hospital tick,” she told The Standard last month.
Mattingley’s exhibition is the latest installment of South West Healthcare’s EmbedED project.
The project began in 2015 with the aim of engaging artists to use their work to demystify the Warrnambool Base Hospital’s emergency department.
Topias III runs until September 30 and is open to the public on Saturdays, Mondays, and Tuesdays from 11am to 5pm.
