Every Child, a group of community members and WSDS parents, launched the social media campaign on Monday.
They believe every child deserves a safe and nurturing environment to learn and grow. The group has formed to lobby the state government for funding in the 2018 budget to build a larger school on Wollaston Road.
The group visited the site on Monday with shovels in hand to symbolise the community’s determination to get the school built.
Group member Kate Darmanin said the current Hyland Street site was “inherently dangerous and entirely unsuitable”.
“Our kids have different needs but they don’t deserve any less,” she said. “They don’t have a voice unless we are that voice.”
Member Jo Taylor said it was “our responsibility as a community to get the best for these kids.”
Anyone wanting to show their support can upload a photo of them with a shovel or simply a shovel to the Every Child Facebook page.
