The midcourter labelled the Lions’ season a “hard-fought” one, but was happy with their form heading into Sunday’s elimination final against Timboon Demons.
“We’ve definitely had our ups and downs,” Dunkley said. “It hasn’t been a really consistent season: we’re either really on our game or off our game.
“It’s definitely been a fight, but I think we have developed as a team and worked together as a team.”
Dunkley admitted to being “a little bit worried” about the Lions’ finals prospects halfway through the season, but they steadied to finish fourth.
It will be the first time South Rovers has played in the A grade finals since 2012 – the year after they won their only top-grade premiership.
The Lions will be looking to pull a swift switch on the Demons when they clash at Noorat on Sunday, with the latter having taken the honours when they met just two weeks ago.
It’s definitely been a fight, but I think we have developed as a team.

“Timboon do play well together, so we’re going to have to work really hard to come out on top,” Dunkley said. “We’ve got to convert with our turnovers … (and) just basically stick together.”
