The Adelaide 36ers-listed guard is among 20 players in contention for the Boomers’ 12-player FIBA Asia Cup roster.
The competition is in Lebanon from August 8-20 with the Boomers drawing Japan, Chinse-Taipai and Hong Kong in their group D pool matches.
Sobey, who is riding a wave of momentum just 10 months after playing in a Big V championship for his home club Warrnambool Seahawks, is hoping to prove his fitness and make the final Boomers’ team.
“I spoke to (Australian coach Andrej) Lemanis last night and he had some good things to say,” Sobey told NBL.com.au in Las Vagas.
“I’ll head up there and start rehabing and stuff like that and go from there.”
