Jason Twaddle, 43, of Boliver Street, was bailed with strict conditions to reappear and will face the Warrnambool Magistrates Court on June 26.
Magistrate Cynthia Toose said Mr Twaddle could thank his mother who gave impressive evidence in a bail application hearing.
Mrs Twaddle cast doubt on whether the tick list contained her son's handwriting and bank statements that were provided to court which explained the large amount of cash he was carrying when arrested.
The case is expected to hinge on the evidence of a handwriting expert and solicitor Ian Pugh said his client did not concede the substance found in deal bags was ice.
Results of tests of the drugs would cause a significant delay in the case due to the large backlog at the police testing facility.
Ms Toose said Mr Twaddle had strong family support, he was to see a psychologist and his strict bail conditions included a night-time curfew, that he not take drugs and live with his parents.
She warned Mr Twaddle that if he offended on bail he would be back in court and almost certainly held in custody.
"In reality don't let your mother down," she told him.
Mr Twaddle has been charged in relation to two incidents.
Police said that on April 13 Mr Twaddle and a friend shared a bong of cannabis.
Mr Twaddle lost his vision and passed out in a loungeroom.
When he woke up he felt badly hungover and thought he was going to die.
He thought he may have inadvertently smoked synthetic cannabis, chased and caught his friend and punched him to the head about a dozen times.
Mr Twaddle also thought $1000 had been stolen from him.
He picked up a steak knife and the other man fled from the house.
Mr Twaddle then got hold of a meat tenderiser and smashed five windows in the other man's car, dented the bonnet and pulled off the Ford badge.
He was charged and bailed to appear in Warrnambool court but before that could happen he was arrested again late last week.
On Thursday last week police officers intercepted a white Subaru in Warrnambool in which Mr Twaddle was a passenger.
A small amount of ice was found on two other men but in Mr Twaddle's shoe police found 12 grams of ice in three separate bags and he was carrying $1105 in cash.
He also had a number of pieces of paper which had a list of names and money amounts.
Mr Twaddle was charged with trafficking ice and associated offences and admitted being a regular drug user - saying he had used meth amphetamine that morning.
