Event organisers said more than 3500 people shuffled shoulder to shoulder along the town’s Commercial Road to join in celebrating all things Irish.
We are very happy with numbers.
- Chris Evans
Koroit Irish Festival Committee president Chris Evans said the three-day event was already exceeding his expectations.
“We are very happy with numbers this year,” he said on Saturday.
“At this stage we’ve had 3517 through the gates which is already better than last year.”
While emerging and established musical talent launched the day two festivities, it was the annual street procession that was the crowd-pleaser.
More than 80 floats showcasing the town’s Irish heritage took more than 30 minutes to travel the one-kilometre shopping strip as onlookers cheered and showed their support.
“We also had our largest number of floats this year,” Mr Evans said.
“Another record-breaker for the festival.”
The weather also played its part in keeping with Koroit’s festival tradition with skies clearing minutes before the start of the midday parade.
The Irish festival ran all weekend and featured music, sport and competitions, – all with a distinctly Irish flavour.
