Daniel Tate, 27, of Menzies Street, did not apply for bail in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court and was remanded in custody until a guilty plea hearing on May 10.
Mr Tate was wanted on two warrants relating to charges of driving while disqualified, drug driving, unlicensed driving, possessing ice, recklessly causing injury, committing offences on bail and three counts of failing to answer bail.
Mr Tate said he was angry on Tuesday afternoon when he squeezed his sunglasses so hard a lens went under his skin.
He suffered a significant injury to a hand.
Mr Tait then had to walk in pouring rain to the Warrnambool Base Hospital where he was assessed and surgery performed to repair his injuries.
He was outside the hospital about an hour after the surgery having a cigarette when police recognised him and he was soon after arrested and taken into custody.
He has 21 pages of prior court appearances.
