Clubs across the Hampden and Warrnambool and District Football Netball leagues will launch programs this week in a bid to nurture the next batch of young talent.
AFL Western District football development manager Alan Thompson said the programs catered for different skill levels and provided specialist coaching on the basic skills of the game.
“The children work at their own skill level and won’t be pressured into working above that,” Thompson said.
“They’ll be put into smaller groups, and coached on kicking, handballing and marking.
“With that sort of environment it’s the perfect way for families to become involved with the clubs.”
He said there was likely to be chances for Auskick participants to play during half-time of AFL games.
