And Australia’s favourite butter is ‘buttering up’ not only its home state but also Sydney for its birthday celebrations.
A giant truck in the form of an iconic butter block on wheels will begin a tour through the south-west on Friday, giving away free ‘simple happiness packs’ of hot cross buns and Western Star butter en route before travelling on to Sydney.
In Sydney it will give away 90,000 samples of hot cross buns and Western Star Spreadable at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
The tour will start at the home of Western Star butter, Cobden, where it is produced at Fonterra’s Cobden factory.
The Cobden event will be held at the Cobden Recreation Reserve from 11am to 1pm and is invitation only.
It will include live music, food, a birthday cake and fun activities and involve Fonterra’s Cobden employees, farmers and their families, a class from the Cobden primary school, Cobden area residents and Corangamite mayor Jo Beard.
The truck will then head to Warrnambool and stop at 1/104 Koroit St, near Browns Depot Bakery, from 2pm to 4pm where 100 ‘simple happiness packs’ will be given away to the first 100 takers.
On Saturday, April 1, the truck will be at the Woolworths Portland supermarket from 9am-11am, again distributing free ‘simple happiness’ packs and will do the same on Sunday, April 2 from 12.30pm-2.30pm from 117 Brown St Hamilton.
One pack of Western Star is sold every second and one in every three households in Australia buys Western Star products each year. Australians bought nearly 38 million Western Star butters and spreads last year.
The brand sources high quality milk from 250 south-west farms, with some farm families working with Western Star for generations over the past 90 years.
Western Star Original Butter was named the Grand Champion Butter at the 2017 Australian Grand Dairy Awards for the second consecutive year.
