Western Victoria MP Gayle Tierney, Moyne Shire mayor Jim Doukas and his Corangamite Shire counterpart Jo Beard joined community members at the opening of a $1.9 million Terang and Mortlake Health Service redevelopment.
The Terang campus projected included the acute ward’s first major upgrade since it was built in 1956. Shared rooms in the aged care centre were transformed into single en suite rooms, living areas were expanded and the renal dialysis unit was relocated to a dedicated room.
Decking at the aged care centre was also expanded, providing greater physical activity opportunities for residents.
The redevelopment cost $1.9 million. The state government provided $1 million with the community raising the remainder.
Ms Tierney praised staff at the facility.
“This modern, new facility will support them to do their job, saving lives and keeping locals healthy,” Ms Tierney said.
“We’re putting patients in Terang and Mortlake first and investing to make sure that across the state, more patients can get the care and treatment they need, sooner and closer to home.
“This redevelopment has helped bring Terang’s hospital and healthcare facilities into the modern age.”
During her visit to Terang, Ms Tierney also announced $113,000 state funding for the Timboon and District Health Service for a new emergency generator and $40,000 to Cobden District Health Services for new heating systems.
