Update: 3.10pm
A 72 year-old-man with serious neck injuries has been flown to a Melbourne hospital after a wind surfing accident in Port Fairy.
Port Fairy police Sergeant Mick Wolfe said the man was wind surfing with another man at Belfast Lough, which runs along Griffiths Street, on Wednesday afternoon.
“A gust of wind got him and threw him off the wind board and he has hyper-extended his neck,” Sergeant Wolfe said.
He said the other wind surfer took the man to shore before flagging down a passing motorist who reported the incident to police and ambulance.
Sergeant Wolfe said three Port Fairy road ambulance crews and the air ambulance attended the scene.
“He was conscious and has serious neck injuries. He’s just left now to go to Melbourne,” Sergeant Wolfe said.
