KOROIT Blue’s focus is firmly on its “week-by-week” prospects, rather than finals, according to club chairman Barry Padgham.

The second-ranked division one side consolidated its spot in the top three with a comprehensive 124-67 win over 10th-placed Port Fairy Red in Saturday’s Western District Bowls Division pennant match at Koroit.
But Padgham, who played third in Neil Criso’s rink, said finals weren’t the focus yet as Blue prepares for a tough final three weeks of the regular season against Timboon Gold, Warrnambool Gold and Warrnambool Blue.
“It was a good, solid win (on Saturday), but we just take it on a week-to-week basis and we’ve got a few tough ones coming up,” he said.
With its division two and three sides also sitting top two, Padgham said Koroit was making a concerted effort to avoid any unnecessary changes to its line-ups as it strives for pennant success.
“We don’t want to make any unnecessary changes as it would upset the balance of the club,” he said.
“It’s all good for the club going forward. It’s been developing pretty well over the last few years.
“We’ve been able to add a little bit more depth … but the members who have been there five years have (also) got us where we are.”
Saturday’s clash with Port Fairy Red was tight until afternoon tea time, with just 16 shots separating the sides across the four rinks.
But a solid effort after the break saw Koroit pull away, going on to post a 31-16 win in Criso’s rink, 25-17 in John Murnane’s, 29-21 in Brian Lenehan’s and 39-13 in Scott Boschen’s.
“It all happened after afternoon tea,” Padgham said.
“We struggled in the first half of the game but after afternoon tea (we pulled away).”
In other results from Saturday, top team Warrnambool Gold won three of its four rinks against Mortlake Blue, posting a 97-79 win on the road.
City Memorial Red scored an away win against Dennington Red, winning three rinks in its 94-67 triumph.
City Memorial Gold leapfrogged Terang Green with a 101-89 win at home, splitting the rinks two apiece.
Warrnambool Blue took bragging rights over clubmate Warrnambool White with a 124-69 win, with a cleansweep of the rinks.
Fourth-placed Timboon Gold maintained its break on the chasing pack with a 115-69 win over Lawn Tennis Red.
The Red side scored a minor victory, though, with Ian Prout winning his rink 29-25.
We don't want to make any unnecessary changes as it would upset the balance of the club.
