The Grassmere association outfit will celebrate its second coming with a reunion on Saturday.
Players and officials of yesteryear have been invited to watch the Roosters’ youth laden A grade outfit play Woolsthorpe before a barbecue and live music.
Roosters president Peter Melican said the club, which was first formed in 1946 before going into recess 21 years later, wanted to recognise its 1974 revival via the Hopkins-Nullawarre league.
Melican said Wangoom, which rejoined the Grassmere competition in the early 1990s, was determined to build on its history.
“We only had one year back in B grade (last season),” he said.
“We have a lot of young players coming through, so they’re certainly getting a good grounding (in A grade).
“They’re certainly finding it a heck of a lot tougher than they did in B grade.
“We were very competitive there and won the premiership but it’s been a different ball game.”
Melican and secretary Terry White – a past president and captain – believe the Roosters’ determination to better their facilities, with the aid of Moyne Shire, would help their cause in coming years.
They said the introduction of irrigation at Wangoom Recreation Reserve 20 years ago was a game-changer too.
They hope Warrnambool’s expansion and subsequent housing estate in the Wangoom catchment area will help boost recruiting.
The Roosters, who will unveil a new scoreboard this weekend as part of their reunion celebrations, also want to improve their all-abilities access.
