It’s time to come up with a name for the latest Maremma puppy at Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village.
The new puppy will become a guard dog for Middle Island’s penguin colony.
Members of the public have been invited to submit their suggestions for the four-month-old puppy, which began her training in September.
Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village manager Nicholas O’Callaghan said the puppy was settling in nicely, and now needed a name.
“We had such a great response when naming our last puppy, so I’m eager to see what suggestions people come up with this time,” he said.
“These dogs are the community’s dogs. They’re working to protect the local penguin colony for all of us, so it’s only fitting that the community helps to name them.”
Entries close on November 30, and then a shortlist will be selected, with a public vote to follow.
The person who picks the winning name will win one night of accommodation at the Lighthouse Lodge at Flagstaff Hill, two tickets to the Shipwrecked Sound and Light Show, dinner for two adults at Clovelly Restaurant, breakfast for two adults at Pippies by the Bay Restaurant and a special meet the Maremma session.
Suggested names for the puppy can be submitted at www.warrnamboolpenguins.com.au
The public helped name another new Maremma earlier this year.
Following 750 suggestions and 1700 votes on 10 shortlisted names, Amor was named after passionate environmentalist John Amor.
