The 16-year-old was part of the latest line-up announcement, which also includes Danish five-piece Afenginn, Canadian folkies The Jerry Cans, as well as New Zealand acts Graeme James, Mel Parson, and Hollie Smith.
Schipper took to social media on Tuesday to express her delight.
“I first remember going to the Port Fairy Folk Festival when I was just 11 years old,” she wrote
“I was blown away by the sheer size of the weekend, and the calibre of artists from all around the world which it draws. I imagined what it would be like to be up on that stage, dreaming that one day it could be me. But never in the world did I expect that five years later, I would be told that they had included me in the 2017 lineup! I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am, and incredibly grateful to all those who have believed in me enough to be given this opportunity.”
Also on the bill will be 8 Foot Felix, Backsliders, Kutcha Edwards, Bush Gothic, The Scrims, The Dead Maggies, an all-star recreation of The Last Waltz, Christine Collister & Michael Fix, The Crooked Fiddle Band, Low Down Riders, The Skeleton Club, Steve Boyd’s Rum Reverie and Thomas Hugh.
They join the likes of Bazzookas, Cookin’ On 3 Burners with Tex Perkins & Stella Angelico, Deborah Conway & Willy Zygier, Don Walker, Dori Freeman, Dubmarine, Eddi Reader, Folk Uke, Karma County, Les Poules a Colin, Manu Delago, Martha Tilston, Melody Pool, Mick Thomas & The Roving Commission, Mundy, Neil Murray, Paul Kelly & Charlie Owen, Phil Wiggins & Dom Turner, Roo Panes, Sarah Carroll & The Left Wing, Seamus Begley Trio, Tash Sultana, The Waifs, Vika & Linda and more.
