The teenager shot a solid two-over par 72 second round to give himself a six-shot buffer on second-placed duo Stephen Andrews and Jarrod Fary at the halfway mark of the competition.
Perry has fired a combined 146 over the first 36 holes.
Warrnambool Golf Club professional Craig Bonney said Perry adjusted to the conditions well.
“It was a really tough day – the winds were gusting at 60 kilometres at times,” he said.
“There wasn’t a lot of standout (performances). It was just about trying to stop the damage too much.”
Bonney said fellow A grader Will MacKenzie – still only 14 – also performed admirably.
“He plays off five and he had the best nett score 71,” he said.
Jeff Hughes (B grade), Wayne Davis (C grade) and Stephen Armitstead (D grade) lead their respective sections.
