From mystery bus trips, concerts, or meeting a maremma puppy there is a range of activities available.
Warrnambool’s program kicks off with the Senior of the Year award on Wednesday, recognising seniors who have made enormous contributions to the community.
Archie Graham Community Centre programs co-ordinator Mary McLeod said the festival promoted active opportunities for people over 60 and she encouraged everyone to get involved.
“I think the view of what a senior is has really changed. People are retiring from work and transitioning older, but they’re more active these days,” Ms McLeod said.
Events include a pampering session on Monday, October 3, meet a maremma puppy at Flagstaff Hill and James Blundell country series concert on Tuesday, October 4. On Wednesday, October 5 there will be an Australian poetry recital and RACV Years Ahead forum.
Ms McLeod said a highlight was the Active Living Festival- Active Hub on the Civic Green on Sunday, October 16.
“We really hope we’ve hit the mark and the program encourages a number of community activities,” Ms McLeod said.
In the Corangamite Shire retro rock 'n' rollers Honey B and The Stingers will headline the Corangamite Seniors Festival, which runs from October 2-8.
Aged and disability services co-ordinator Jon Sedgley said the 1950s-style band's concert on October 5 was sure to entertain the Camperdown Theatre Royal audience.
“From the moment the first chord is struck, their vitality and energy is transmitted throughout the audience, and you know you’re in for an entertaining show,” he said. For tickets visit the Corangamite Shire office or call 5593 7100.
Also on offer is a mystery bus trip, co-ordinated by Camperdown Community House, on October 7. For details and bookings visit the call 5593 1403.
