Quality Suites Deep Blue Hotel and Spa co-owner Gene Seabrook said he hoped the first stage of the project would be completed in time for an opening on new year’s eve in 2017.
The $2-million first stage, designed by Cera Stribley Architects, will feature up to 15 geothermal pools of varying temperatures and a range of health-related ‘experiences’ including mud baths and salt caves.
Some of the pools will also provide unique views of the ocean.
“We’re hoping this will help Warrnambool become a destination place not just in summer,” Mr Seabrook said. “We want people to stop turning around at the 12 Apostles and come a bit further.”
The project was given $650,000 in joint state and federal funding this year.
