Cr Gaston learnt about the footpath on Hood Street in Dennington after door-knocking in the area during her campaign.
The path ends just before an entrance to the WP O’Sullivan playground, adjacent to Raglan Parade.
Residents want the path extended through the parkland, providing safe access to the nearby Woolworths shopping complex.
Dennington resident Hayley Godfrey said as the area was growing, more people were using the park.
“What is the point of the footpath stopping nowhere?” Cr Gaston asked. “A footpath would be an easy fix and it would lead direct to the traffic lights and a safe crossing.”
Cr Gaston said funding could come from council’s small infrastructure fund. She said if she was re-elected would work to develop a new path.
