Some boat and jetski operators are reportedly continuing to come too close to whales at Portland despite authorities warning of harsh penalties for those breaking the law after a recent incident still under investigation.

The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) confirmed it was investigating more reports of interference with Southern Right Whales inside and outside the harbour at Portland.
DELWP representative Nathan MacDonald said officers had been working with Glenelg Shire to discuss the need for additional signs about marine mammals to inform vessel operators and that community education measures had been implemented.
