The State Government has bestowed $290,000 upon the region-wide project, which aims to improve the number of young people achieving a year 12 or equivalent-level education.
Great South Coast Beyond The Bell chairman Mike Holland said it was hoped the funding would help keep young people engaged in education and build on the work done so far.
“It will allow us to introduce new initiatives following group priorities across the six local government areas,” Mr Holland said.
Beyond The Bell covers the municipalities of Colac Otway, Corangamite, Glenelg, Moyne, Southern Grampians and Warrnambool.
Mr Holland said the funding would “put reality underneath the aspirations” of young people across the region.
The funding will also be used for “administrative support and (to) create opportunities for professional learning of people in the Beyond The Bell network”.
He said he hoped the State Government funding would encourage partners, agencies and schools to continue their contributions to the program.
“Beyond the Bell has the potential to make a significant long-term shift in the way communities support young people and view education as an integral part of our lives.”
Beyond The Bell formed to tackle the region’s low year 12 or equivalent attainment rates.
