Next week Legacy will fundraise to continue supporting war widows and dependants of servicemen with its iconic badge day on Friday, September 2.
Legacy members will be out in force collecting money through badge and teddy-bear sales.
“We only have one fundraising day a year,” Ms Davenport said. “It really is a good ongoing cause.”
Ms Davenport said the organisation tended to be forgotten and received no government funding.
While there is war, there will always be a need for Legacy... It needs to keep going.
- Pam Davenport
“It needs to keep going and be supported,” she said. “All veterans have families and we still have people at war.”
The Warrnambool Legacy Club support nearly 400 widows of war, along with their children and handicapped persons through a variety of services across Port Fairy, Macarthur, Hawkesdale, Caramut, Mortlake, Lismore, Camperdown, Cobden, Timboon and Princetown.
“We can only carry on with financial support from the public,” Ms Davenport said.
