Last Saturday, two divers found themselves in distress after drifting further out to sea at Pea Soup.
A group of divers were in the water when two of those were drawn past the breakers.
One of the divers was able to get back to shore while the other was able to stay afloat, waiting for help to arrive.
Port Fairy Marine Rescue Service president Russell Lemke said the call was received late Saturday afternoon.
“A couple of our members were in the area and they rang through to tell us two divers had found themselves in some strife,” Mr Lemke said.
“We then got a call from Water Police by which time we were already on our way.
“The other diver who came back in was exhausted.
“Fortunately we ended up not being required with another diver able to come to the assistance of the diver.”
While the service was not required, Mr Lemke said the situation may not have had such a happy ending for those in distress.
“This was a small group of divers that went into the water as individuals,” Mr Lemke said.
“That is okay to do but in that situation we would recommend making sure you appoint someone to be the dive master.

“What that means is that it is someone’s task to co-ordinate the dive, count heads going into the water and coming out and generally keeping an eye on things.”
Mr Lemke said the service is happy to report it has been a quiet winter for its members as far as rescues go.
He said boating behaviour had been pleasing.
“We encourage anyone going out on a boat to let us know,” Mr Lemke said.
“It is a valuable safeguard for boats if someone knows they are out there, it can save time if a rescue is needed.
“There have been a couple of minor instances where other boats have been able to help each other without having to call on us.”
Port Fairy Marine Rescue Services is seeking to update its vessel which it has had since 2008.
