Wannon voters are expressing “gross disillusionment” with the Liberal and Labor parties as the election nears, independent Bernardine Atkinson said at The Standard’s forum on Tuesday.

Her independent counterpart Michael McCluskey agreed, and said he saw a shift away from the two main parties occurring.
“Are they driven by the betterment of the community or are they driven by the need for these parties to be in power and drive their own political careers?” he said.
Greens candidate Thomas Campbell said the similarity of Labor and Liberal policies on issues such as asylum seekers had disappointed voters.
Liberal Dan Tehan and Labor’s Michael Barling both disagreed, saying there were clear differences on issues including taxation and penalty rates.
