The two-time Simpson premiership footballer has crossed to the Warrnambool and District league club after playing his career to date – bar one year at Cobden in the under 18s – with the Tigers.
With height, skill and athleticism on his side, Weel has been a proven performer all across the ground.
“I’ve played nearly every position down at Simpson the last seven or eight years,” he said.
“I guess it’s just game by game and match-up versus match-up (that decides it).”
The 26-year-old, who now lives just five kilometres from Panmure, is working back from a right ankle injury sustained in the last five minutes of his final game with Simpson on June 11.
He has two grade two ligament tears in the ankle, but is hopeful of taking to the field after the bye when Panmure plays Kolora-Noorat.
“The grade two (injury) can be pretty variable – it can be anywhere from two to six weeks,” Weel said.
“It’s improving really quick – it’s come good the first 75 per cent … but it’s definitely still not right.”
Weel had already been training with the Bulldogs every Tuesday night to save a trip to Simpson.
Kenna was thrilled to secure Weel, whom he said the club had pursued when he first moved to Panmure earlier this year.
“We couldn’t be happier to have him,” Kenna said.
“He’s an option just to go anywhere back or anywhere forward or in the ruck.”
