Brown, 17, has signed with Victorian Premier Cricket club Prahran.
Last season, Brown played a handful of games in the third and fourth grades for rival club Melbourne.
Brown is hoping the change of environment will help him further advance his career.
“I know a few blokes at Prahran so I’m looking forward to playing with them,” Brown said.
“I’m keen to play a full season of cricket at Prahran and have a red-hot crack at playing the highest grade I can. I’ve decided to not do the Victorian pathway stuff this year, it’s pretty hectic with school so I will concentrate on that and playing for Prahran.”
Brown is doing Year 12 at Melbourne Grammar.
He will come into the 2016-17 season at close to full fitness having recovered from back injuries that have sidelined him in the past. Those injures restricted Brown’s ability to bowl at full pace but his skill with the bat meant he still made the Vic Country under 17 team last year as a batsman.
He ended up making a return to the bowling crease for Russells Creek’s division one team at the end of last season, snagging nine wickets from his 34 overs.
With the bat he averaged 47 with a highest score of 116.
Former Dennington batsman Nick King will be a clubmate of Brown’s at Prahran. King made 374 runs for Prahran’s second grade team last year, including a highest score of 101.
