South Warrnambool’s Hugh McCluggage and Shannon Beks and Koroit’s Willem Drew and Jarrod Korewha have been selected in the 30-man squad.
They are among seven North Ballarat Rebels to make the squad with Jarrod Berry (Horsham Saints), Tom Williamson (Ararat Rates) and Lloyd Meek (North Ballarat juniors) the others.
McCluggage and Korewha are no strangers to representative football having stepped out on numerous occasions for the AFL Academy team.
Beks has gone one better this season after trying out for Vic Country but failing to make the squad in 2015.
Drew has been one of the success stories of the season for the Rebels.
Having made the Rebels’ list as bottom-age player in 2015, Drew played just four games.
He continued to work hard and play good football for Koroit. He went on to play in the Saints’ senior winning grand final team, adding a second premiership medal to the one he had collected in 2014.
He was selected as part of the North Ballarat Rebels’ intake for 2016.
Drew has gone on to play all seven games so far and is thrilled to have made the Vic Country squad.
“I’m pretty happy to make the squad, my form hasn’t been too bad,” Drew said.
“I’ve just been running around trying to get a kick and doing what I can for the team.
“We are going alright with wins in our last four games.
“It has been good to get a bit more opportunity this year and hopefully we can keep playing alright.”
In his seven outings for the Rebels this season, Drew has been in fine form. He has been named in the best players on six occasions, four of those in the top two.
Vic Country will play in division one of the nation championships with its first game in Perth on June 5.
