The 2016 Great South West Dairy Awards were celebrated at Warrnambool’s Deakin University with more than 250 attendees.
Simon Gleeson from Brucknell was named young farm leader of the year.
The Timboon farmer was grateful for the support he had received.
“Leadership involves guys and girls that step up when things are tough… I’ve had good people around me to guide me,” he said.
The event provided an opportunity to socialise, network and celebrate with industry figures, service providers and politicians.
WestVic Dairy Regional Manager Lindsay Ferguson expressed his admiration for all finalists and pride for the wider dairy industry.
"The Dairy Awards celebrate the good days and the strength and resilience it takes to get through the not so good days,” he said.
The Other winners were:
- Farm business manager of the year: Stephen and Tania Luckin, Heywood;
- Employee of the year: Jamie Corbo, Orford;
- Employer of the Year: Brendan Rea, Allansford;
- Share farmer of the year: Shaun and Kelly Beard, Jancourt East;
- Farm photo of the year: Sean Lenehan, Nullawarre;
- Honour board winners: Julian Benson and Kerry Callow;
- Young farm leader: Simon Gleeson, Brucknell;
- Natural resource management: Bryan and Joanne Dickson, Terang.
