Australian social network Nabo has surveyed more than 3,500 Australians on what makes a good neighbour, a bad neighbour and how they rated themselves as neighbours.
More than half said that they prefered neighbours who stopped for a chat, and 86 per cent said that a good neighbour was someone who waved hello.
Something as simple as a smile and wave, or a "G’day" could bring you closer to your neighbours, the survey revealed.
A huge 84 per cent of people said that a good neighbour was someone who offered to help a neighbour in need and someone who keeps an eye on their home while they’re away.
Meanwhile 71 per cent said someone who took care of their own property was a good neighbour.
Nabo is a joint venture with Fairfax Media, publisher of this website.
