Committee member Carolyn Bishop said more donations were expected to come in after the 18-hour relay closed at 1pm on Saturday, giving organisers confidence the target would be reached.
Mrs Bishop said more than 1100 people in 35 teams registered for this year’s relay and supporters had further lifted numbers.
It was the 14th relay in Warrnambool and the registration of 10 new teams showed enthusiasm for the Cancer Council fund-raiser has not diminished.
Mrs Bishop said many light-hearted events were staged during the night to keep participants spirits up and team members alert for their stint on the circuit around Deakin University’s oval.
They included a “heptathlon” of fun events including a sack race, egg and spoon race and hula hooping.
Some teams added to the life-affirming atmosphere in comic costumes.
