The Portland Arts Centre will host the session from 9am. It is being run by the cross-party rural and regional committee as part of its inquiry.
Member for Rodney Paul Weller, who is committee chairman, said they would like to hear from anyone involved in food production who may be able to provide advice or information to assist with setting up the inquiry's terms of reference.
"Now is the right time to investigate the cost competitiveness of food safety laws on regulated businesses," Mr Weller said.
"It has been 10 years since Dairy Food Safety Victoria and PrimeSafe were established, at which time seafood was included in PrimeSafe's regulatory activities.
"We are particularly interested in solutions to any problems that have been identified as a way of safeguarding the sector into the future."
The committee will be looking into the cost competitiveness of food safety laws to regulated businesses, non-regulatory methods for achieving required food safety outcomes and other issues related to legislation of food safety in Victoria.
"We all acknowledge Victoria's vibrant primary food processing sector and its contribution to employment and wealth in our state," Mr Weller said.
