Sheehan polled 40 votes to win a high-scoring count from Kolora-Noorat’s Brooke Hoare who finished on 37. In an incrediable finish to the season Sheehan polled three votes in each of the last four games to storm to victory. Going into the last round Sheehan and Hoare were tied but while the Power player failed to get a vote, Sheehan was awarded the maximum votes for a best-on-court performance against Nirranda.
Sheehan was overwhelmed by her victory after the count.
“I’m very happy,” was her shocked response to the win.
“We have a really good team that works well together and that helps everyone play well. We are looking forward to the finals starting this week.”
South Rovers finished in third place and will play Russells Creek in the qualifying final on Saturday.
It was also glory for the Lions in the 15s and under with Meg Downie winning the best and fairest after polling 30 votes. She finished ahead of Dennington’s Laura Coffey who polled 26 votes.
Downie polled in 11 games and was best-on-court in eight of those from her post at goal defence.
The netball support team at South Rovers received a pat on the back from Downie.
“We have really good coaches and my teammates are also great to play with,” Downie said.
“We have all put a lot into the season so hopefully it keeps going well.”
The South Rovers 15s and under team will have the first week of the finals off after finishing on top of the ladder.
It was a familiar face that won the 13s and under league best and fairest award with Panmure’s Isabella Rea taking home the trophy. It is the second season in a row she has topped the voting in this grade. Second was Old Collegians player Vanessa McLaren on 29.
It is the start of a big few weeks for Rea who is part of a Bulldogs line-up that will play Mortlake Junior Sharks in the qualifying final on Saturday.
While the excitement of another best and fairest win was evident, Rea also has her eyes on playing finals.
“The finals will be good, we are going along okay,” she said of her teams chances.
The presentation night was held at City Memorial Bowls Club. Other awards presented on the night included goalkicking awards for both football grades. In the under 17.5s the winner was Russells Creek player William McPhee who finished the home and away season with 101 goals. In the under 14.5s Allansford forward Jol Katsaros led the way with 76.
