The Seagulls defeated Warrnambool 37-34 at Reid Oval on Saturday. It was Sommerville’s first game back after missing four with a broken wrist with the coach happy to get the win.
“It wasn’t the most convincing win, it was a bit of a scrappy game,” Sommerville said. “We couldn’t get a lot of rhythm going and they were very hard to shake off.”
Veteran Nicole Dwyer led the way for the Seagulls with a tireless game in centre. Sommerville played at wing defence and was part of an effective Port Fairy back half that included her sister Emma at goal keeper and Sarah Moroney at goal defence. Rachel Giblin was in good form at the other end of court at wing attack while the leading scorer was Emily Forrest with 27 goals.
For Warrnambool Alyssa Johnstone was best on court while Alana Johnstone was the Blues top scorer with 26.
