A FUND-RAISING dinner to kickstart a 1100-kilometre bike ride raising money and awareness for youth mental health has helped bank more than $20,000 for the cause.

More than 200 people attended the Cycle4Life dinner at the Lady Bay Resort on Friday. The event was held ahead of Jon Watson, Jason Hill, Mark Powell and Leigh McCarthy’s epic ride from Sydney to Noosa with Cycle4Life to raise money for youth mental health organisation headspace.
Mr Watson said organisers could not be happier.
“We had 206 people come, which is more than we anticipated, the community support was incredible,” he said.
“A big thank-you to the suppliers and the staff for donating their time and thanks to Peter Walsh for donating the venue.”
Former Sydney Swans player Barnaby Howarth was guest speaker and spoke about his experiences with stroke and diabetes.
“Barnaby was amazing, his story is one of hardship but his message was just to get on with it,” Mr Watson said.
“He had his books there to sell on the night and actually sold out of them and then donated all the proceeds back to us, which was great.”
The Warrnambool quartet will join three cyclists from Sydney in the six-day interstate ride in September.
The group is hoping to raise $70,000 for headspace and to help fund a scholarship training program.
