The award is part of Dairy Australia’s inaugural search for Australia’s LEGENDAIRY Capital, a project to celebrate the nation’s most vibrant regional communities.
The other seven successful towns for each of the nation’s dairy regions were: Stanhope (Murray Dairy region); Meeniyan (Gippsland); Comboyne (New South Wales); Monto (Subtropical); Port Elliot (South Australia); Smithton (Tasmania) and Northcliffe (Western Australia).
As Peterborough’s prize for winning the regional title, the town’s residents group will receive $2500 to begin the digitalisation of historic moving image footage, taken by a number of dairy farmers and local community members in the district.
Peterborough now goes into the running for the title of Australia’s LEGENDAIRY Capital 2015, which will be announced in mid-September, and has the chance to win a further $7500.
