Powerhouse Rokewood stud Wurrook took top honours, winning supreme Merino exhibit with a superfine wool ram on show debut.
The 22-month-old ram was sired by Merryville Hamilton Giant, which also produced a supreme champion for Wurrook at Bendigo in 2013.
Judge Alan McCormack said he and the other judges were ultimately looking for perfection and this ram was the closest to it.
“He has terrific coverage and quality of superfine wool, and it is rare to see a ram of this quality with an open, soft face,” he said.
The Wurrook ram beat champions from Greenfields, Darriwell, Langdene, Alfoxton and Glenara studs from the strong, medium, fine/medium, fine and ultrafine wool categories respectively.
He was challenged in the final judging by a fine wool ewe from Grampians stud Glenpaen, but won on scale and wool coverage.
