Former Warrnambool resident Kim Donald (left) has signed up to a unique competition that could take her all the way to Fiji to transform her life and improve her new home town of Alice Springs.
The 34-year-old is one of 50 semi-finalists in This Is Your Life Change, which will offer six people from across the globe an all-expenses-paid trip to a remote Fijian island for two weeks to work with a business and life coach and a personal trainer.
“The competition was open across the world and encourages anyone with a business, charity or product idea,” Ms Donald said.
“They had entries from 60 different countries.
“It’s amazing to be in the top 50, it’s incredible really.”
Ms Donald is hoping to earn a place in the top six to get her project — Light Up Alice Springs — off the ground.
The project combines the former Brauer College student’s passion for art and love for Alice Springs, where she has lived for about 15 months.
“I do really like calling this place home,” Ms Donald said.
“But I’ve seen a lot of shops close down and there is less of a tourist industry.
“I thought, ‘what can we do to give Alice Springs an attraction?’.”
Ms Donald wants to work with the local arts community and indigenous and school groups to create murals around the town.
The keen artist has begun using UV reactive paints that are visible under black light.
“Imagine a glow city, but not like New York with neon signs everywhere, because the paintings around the town can be seen in day and night,” Ms Donald said.
“I feel my Light Up Alice plan would really make a positive mark on this town.
“By working on this project together as a community, I feel it would help this town blossom and Light Up Alice could really become a major attraction here in Alice Springs.
“I recently had an information night and I’ve only heard positive things from the community.”
Ms Donald’s fate now lies with voters, and her friends and family in Warrnambool and further afield are campaigning hard to get her in the top six before voting finishes at the end of May.
“This is a reality TV show so if I get there you will be able to watch my dream evolve.”

A place in This Is Your Life Change would make sure the project becomes reality, Ms Donald said.
“I think the follow-up from Fiji will be the bigger picture for me. It will give me the resources to make this a reality.
“They support you for 12 months to make it happen.”
