Darren Weir’s four-year-old grey ($4.40) produced one of the most dominant runs of the day to thrash his 15 rivals, despite the repeated setbacks.
Jeremy Kenny’s Hadda Couple ($8.50) dashed home to grab second, four lengths back. Peter Chow’s Doubtless Star ($51) also finished fast to place third.
“Yeah it was (dominant),” Weir said. “It’s nice to see him repay the owners for the patience they’ve put in. He’s been a little frustrating with the problems he’s had.
“As a younger horse he pulled a shoe and stood on it and got an infection in a foot. It was a nightmare there for a while. It was touch-and-go whether he’d get through it.
“We got him through it and had him going well then he cracked a knee. It’s been pretty frustrating. He’s always shown a little bit. It’s good he can repay their patience.”
