“We need all sorts of people from different walks of life to contribute to the capability the army provides and provide humanitarian relief and assistance to the community."
- Brigadier Scott Hicks, Director General Defence Force Recruiting
The Army Reserve offers an experience that’s far from the ordinary. Unlike a full-time military career, Army Reservists enjoy a flexible commitment where they need only devote some of their spare time to enjoy the benefits of a military career.
Reservists come from all walks of life. They’re nurses and doctors, fire fighters and ambulance officers, tradies and IT professionals, or even public servants and university students looking to branch out and learn new skills in a local part-time role.
Brigadier Scott Hicks, Director General Defence Force Recruiting (DFR), believes the Army Reserve plays a vital role in ensuring the continued capability of the Australian Defence Force (ADF).
“Reservists are an essential part of Australia's Defence Force and help safeguard the security of our country. People sometimes are not aware of the important role Reservists play in providing the additional soldiers and officers the Australian Army needs.
“We need all sorts of people from different walks of life to contribute to the capability the army provides and provide humanitarian relief and assistance to the community,” Brigadier Hicks said.
“Supportive employers also have a lot to gain from employing Reservists. Many of the skills Reservists learn in their military career are transferable to their civilian workplace. It’s a win-win situation for the employer, the employee and the ADF.”
The Army Reserve is there whenever communities need a hand. Reservists are part of the team that helps to rebuild the lives of entire communities when disaster strikes either at home or abroad. It’s all about giving back to the community and the nation.
With a career as an Army Reservist you have the chance to do that something ‘more’. The Army Reserve is made up of everyday Aussies ready to step up to the challenge. Reservists help local communities around Australia and abroad, and play an important part in providing additional support to the Australian Army.
From the flexible commitment to the world-class training, sense of comradery and mateship, as well as the tax-free pay and chance to make a difference, the Army Reserve opens up a world of opportunity for those willing to grasp it.
