The Seagulls, coming off their first round one win since 2011, host North Warrnambool Eagles at Gardens Oval tomorrow.

Evans said he expected Port Fairy to improve from week-to-week as it strives to end its time as a Hampden league cellar dweller. 

“I think a lot of it probably comes down to a lot of new faces in the team,” he said.

“I think some of them were running around (against Portland) not knowing where they were going and just getting used to everyone and the way we want to be playing.

“It’s going to take a few weeks before a few of them understand.”

Evans said the Eagles, also coming off a confidence-boosting round one win, were a strong side with talent across all lines. 

“They have a good forward line, with a good target and youth kicking goals as well and Jordan Dillon is as good a ruckman as there is in the competition so he’ll be feeding it to the boys.”

North Warrnambool Eagles co-coach Brendan Murfett wants his side to play with the same energy it displayed against Terang Mortlake.

“Hopefully with our fitness levels the way they are at the moment, we’ll jump out of the blocks like last week,” he said.

“That was the most positive way to start, four goals on the board in quick succession. We have had a few other people say we were not fit enough so we took that onboard in the pre-season.”

Murfett said pressure for spots was fierce at the Eagles, with a number of players vying for senior recalls.

“There are still two or three pushing hard. Ben Mugavin once again was very unlucky not to get selected,” he said.
