A SLIGHT chill in the air did nothing to cool the spirits of Warrnambool’s faithful as they gathered for the annual Way of the Cross walk yesterday morning.
The combined churches event began at Cannon Hill, with participants joining others at Lake Pertobe in a route that stopped at eight points for prayer and Bible readings.
Uniting Church minister Reverend Malcolm Frazer said the walk was an important way to bring together different congregations to celebrate Easter’s true meaning.
“As things become more and more secular it’s important that we share together in this walk of witness,” he said.
“Holy days are becoming more holidays, so this is a reminder to people of what the day really means.”
At another level, Reverend Frazer said it was a chance for reflection and meditation.
“It’s an inspiring thing to see people of many various backgrounds coming together on this most sacred day,” he said.
An Easter Sunday sunrise service will be held at 6.30am at Cannon Hill tomorrow.
