The A grade team is chasing a round one win against Merrivale tomorrow.
Old Collegians coach Lisa Arundell said the team was looking forward to the first game. “It’s a fresh season and a new start,” she said.
“It will be interesting to see how we match up to Merrivale. We had two tough matches against them last year.”
Arundell said the Warriors had a couple of new faces, but they’d retained five players from last year’s side.
“Chloe Arnott has come over from Warrnambool and Kylie Grayland from Koroit,” she said.
“Sarah Lenehan has stepped up from the A reserves. They are all completely different players to the girls we lost from last year.”
Merrivale finished fourth on the ladder last year and was knocked out of the competition after losing the elimination final by two goals to Kolora-Noorat.
Tigers coach Raewyn Poumako said the A grade team would focus on each game as it came this season.
“We are looking at it one step at a time,” she said.
“Once this week is done we will see how we go and then re-assess. I would like the team to play a consistent and disciplined game.”
This year’s team has plenty of new faces, with only two netballers from 2014 playing.
“Kate Dobson will play on Friday,” Poumako said.
“She has played juniors with the club and has a lot of family here.”
Kelly Hines has also been added to the team.
“She played last time Merrivale won the final,” Poumako said.
“It’s good to have her back. She’s a very strong shooter.”
The game at Merrivale Recreation Reserve starts at 1.50pm.
