POLICE have again warned of the dangers of unauthorised archery as investigations continue into three instances of native birds being shot in Warrnambool and Koroit during the past few days.

A corella shot with a wooden arrow, a magpie shot with an aluminum arrow and another magpie injured by a carbon fibre arrow has shocked wildlife carers.
“Bows and arrows and crossbows are very high powered. All users should exercise great care,” Senior Sergeant Shane Keogh, of Warrnambool police, said.
“There should be more laws around their use. If people are carrying these weapons in a public place they must have a lawful reason.
“We can confiscate and prosecute.”
Victoria’s laws do not prevent children buying a non-professional bow and arrow kit.
