Sergeant Martin Flannery said police attended the Iron Bar on Richmond Street on Christmas Eve after a spillover of people from other venues tried to get into the establishment.
“We had people arriving from other premises and becoming agitated,” he said.
“Bottles were thrown and there was general unruly behaviour.”
On arrival police found a large crowd waiting outside and one Portland man was arrested for being drunk and failing to move on.
Another two Portland men were also arrested for the same offences.
Sergeant Flannery said the three men spent four hours in the lock up and were issued with penalty notices with fines up to $590.
At 1.30am on Christmas day police arrested another Portland man in his 20s for being drunk in the street. A female Portland driver was arrested after recording a breath test reading of 0.77.
She was released with a penalty notice and has lost her licence for six months.
