Champion golfer Marc Leishman and eight homegrown AFL stars will take on the Rotary Club of Warrnambool East’s hole-in-one competition.
Retired Brisbane Lions star Jonathan Brown leads the list of footballers who will swing their clubs for a good cause.
Martin Gleeson, Jackson Merrett, Zac Merrett (Essendon), Gary Rohan (Sydney Swans), Sam Dwyer (Collingwood), Lewis Taylor (Brisbane) and Louis Herbert (Gold Coast) round out the star-studded line-up.
A big crowd is expected on Saturday at 10am to watch as the AFL stars pit their skills against Leishman.
Rotary club member Ian Heard said having such high profile players would be a great boost for the competition which begins on Boxing Day.
“Marc Leishman has been a great ambassador for the competition and he always comes down when he is in town,” Mr Heard said.
“To have the local AFL players as well is fantastic and I’m sure it will create a lot of interest.”
The footballer who gets nearest the pin will win an accommodation package of two nights which includes evening meals and breakfast. He will then donate the prize to a family in crisis which the winner selects.
The competition, located along the foreshore near the skate park, will run until January 25.
In its 11th year, an ace was scored 13 times in last summer’s event.
Participants pay $5 for 15 balls with a hole-in-one carrying a prize of $200 and nearest the pin each day receiving a voucher valued up to $170.
Mr Heard said all money raised was used by the Rotary club for local projects.
