Police said the silver Ford Falcon was reported driving erratically about 1pm between Portland and Port Fairy.
The car was followed from the Port Fairy area to the Crossley and Koroit district where it was lost.
Police began a pursuit when the car was found again on Mailors Flat-Koroit Road at 1.44pm, but the chase lasted about 30 seconds due to high speed on Warrnambool-Caramut Road.
The car was last seen driving towards Woolsthorpe and is described as a recent model with a rear spoiler and mags.
The vehicle's licence plates WEY 328 were stolen from Hamilton on the weekend.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Warrnambool police station.
